Meet LaSaun

I believe one of the most powerful tools we have in life is our voice. When people feel unheard, unseen, dismissed, or emotionally silenced, it can deeply impact self-worth, relationships, and emotional wellness. My goal as a therapist is to provide a safe, supportive space where individuals feel seen, valued, and empowered to heal. Our work together can also help clients find their voice, reclaim their sense of self, overcome their stuck points, and move through situations holding them back.

Growing up in a small town, I experienced moments where I questioned whether my voice mattered. That journey shaped both my passion and purpose as a counselor. Today, I am committed to helping others move from survival mode into emotional healing, growth, and deeper connection with themselves and others.

Who I Work With

I work with clients navigating trauma, emotional overwhelm, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions. Many of the clients I support are high-functioning individuals who appear strong externally but internally feel exhausted, disconnected, anxious, emotionally stuck, or overwhelmed by the weight of life and relationships.

I have a passion for supporting clients experiencing:

  • Trauma and unresolved past experiences
  • Relationship trauma, betrayal, divorce, and emotional loss
  • Anxiety, burnout, and stress in high-functioning professionals
  • Depression, loneliness, and emotional numbness
  • Life transitions and identity shifts
  • Grief and complicated loss
  • Difficulty expressing, identifying, or regulating emotions
  • Faith, spirituality, and emotional healing
  • Trauma in men and emotional disconnection
  • Perinatal mental health, reproductive trauma, and hormonal life transitions
  • Couples and families seeking healthier communication and connection
  • Foster care, adoption, attachment, and family transitions

I also provide affirming support for BIPOC individuals, LGBTQIA+ clients, and those navigating complicated experiences within faith and identity

What Therapy Looks Like With Me

I believe healing happens within safe and authentic relationships. Therapy with me is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in honesty, emotional safety, and practical growth. I work to create an atmosphere where clients can process difficult emotions without fear of judgment or shame.

Depending on your needs, I may use:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Trauma-focused approaches
  • Internal Family Services (IFS)
  • Exposure therapy
  • Attachment-based work
  • Person-centered therapy
  • Gottman

I also enjoy incorporating creativity and connection into sessions through music, reflection, and therapeutic activities when appropriate.

My goal is not simply to help people cope, but to help them heal, grow, and develop healthier emotional patterns, relationships, and ways of navigating life.

My Background & Experience

I have worked in human services and mental health for over 20 years. My professional experience includes supporting individuals and families impacted by trauma, foster care and adoption, substance use, domestic violence, grief, relationship challenges, and community stressors.

I earned my undergraduate degree in Social Work from the University of Alabama and my graduate degree in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. I am TAC (Training for Adoption Competency) trained through CASE (Center for Adoption Support and Education) and am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia.

Outside of Therapy

Outside of work, I am a singer, songwriter, and creative at heart. Music has always been a source of healing and restoration in my own life, and I deeply value quiet moments, meaningful connection, faith, family, and opportunities to encourage others.

When one seeks out therapy, I believe they are saying that they want a change. Sometimes we need someone to listen and ask questions so that the processing of thoughts and feelings can be done in a nonjudgmental way. The answers come from within and I am just a guide along the healing journey.

I believe in the therapeutic process and consider it to consist of many forms. Each person is so unique and has their own story to tell in their own unique way and in their own time. The one thing I say to my clients in every first session, is, it starts with you. You choosing to show up to your appointment, you choosing to seek out support, encouragement, advice, a listening ear.

I believe therapy and healing are not only about reducing distress—it is also about creating space for new insight, stronger self-trust, and a more aligned way of living that may not have been accessible before.
