My Treatment Philosophy

I specialize in empowering individuals to learn to recognize and address the issues that interfere with a happy, healthy life. My philosophy is to help you sort through the things that are difficult right now, that are a reflection of your past, and to offer you a safe place to be open without fear and judgment to process. I would like to help you work on the struggles you are facing and to offer you a place to explore your thoughts and feelings. You are not alone. Things can and will get better.

Who I work with:

I enjoy working with youth and adults.

Why I became a Counselor:

I became a counselor, because I saw how my dad, a Vietnam veteran, struggled with his mental health. His resiliency and unmet needs inspired and motivated me to be a part of the solution for others.

My Treatment theories & approaches:

My approach utilizes eclectic therapy techniques that pull from multiple, therapeutic modalities. I tailor treatment to each client’s unique needs and preferences. I also integrate elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapy, and self-determination.

My Certifications & Trainings:

Most of my clinical trainings have focused in life transitions, anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders.

My Life Outside of Work:

Married to my husband of 13 years & being a boy mom to our active son, who is our heart.

If I weren’t a counselor, I would be a podcaster and basketball player mentor.

My hobbies include: playing basketball with my son, driving race cars and bike riding with my family.

Practice Highlights

Morning Appointments, In-person & Online appointments, Sunday appointments flexible times before 3pm.

Psychotherapy is a kind of help in which the patient or client engages with a professional trained in the science and art of understanding and alleviating human suffering. As a Psychologist and psychotherapist, I stand in the belief that I don’t do anything “to” but rather “with” and “for” others – good therapy is collaborative - and that one must avoid a ‘one size fits all’ approach.

I believe one of the most powerful tools we have in life is our voice. When we are silenced and not allowed the opportunity to express ourselves it can result in depression and anxiety. Over time it will impair our self-efficacy and value...

My role is to be side-by-side with you navigating these complex emotions and situations so that you can find the power in your voice, your body, and your strengths. My goal as a counselor is to create a positive, and reassuring environment where you can be you with all the quirks that uniquely make you – you. I believe that you are the expert of your experience, you have the answers inside of you, and we are together on this journey to unlock what is getting in your way. It is my hope to help you find strategies to interrupt patterns that are no longer serving you and create healthier paths to allow you to “be the change you wish to see.” If you choose to let me be a part of this journey with you, it will be an honor because I recognize it is hard to trust again when there have been letdowns.

I believe in the therapeutic process and consider it to consist of many forms. Each person is so unique and has their own story to tell in their own unique way and in their own time. The one thing I say to my clients in every first session, is, it starts with you. You choosing to show up to your appointment, you choosing to seek out support, encouragement, advice, a listening ear.
Denise Simpson (she/her)

Denise Simpson (she/her)

When one seeks out therapy, I believe they are saying that they want a change. Sometimes we need someone to listen and ask questions so that the processing of thoughts and feelings can be done in a nonjudgmental way. The answers come from within and I am just a guide along the healing journey.
