My main goal in therapy is to empower you. In my opinion, there does not have to be something “wrong” to come to counseling. We can target whatever areas of your life you would like to improve and we will work as a team to achieve your goals. I’m here to tell you that you aren’t weak if life gets you down. Despite the challenges you face, you are worthy of love and happiness. Therapy offers a unique space for you to be the vulnerable, imperfect human that you are while still being wholly accepted, appreciated, and respected.
sarah-full-profileI obtained my BA in Psychology from Christopher Newport University and my MSEd in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Old Dominion University. I have experience with a wide range of troubles including (but not limited to) adjustments to life changes, anxiety, depression, anger, substance use/abuse, Bipolar Disorder, trauma, and LGBTQIA issues. Therapy looks different for every person. I value your individuality, so it is important to me to fit my skills to your preferences.
I encourage you to follow through with counseling if you are reading this. You deserve it. Put the time into finding the therapist that you think would be the best fit and try it out. And if that doesn’t work, don’t be afraid to try again. Just like other relationships, some personalities work well together and others clash. I promise there is someone out there for you that will fit your needs and preferences. Personal fulfillment is worth the effort.
